# Multiplier

With the multiplier feature, you can fine-tune the multiplier for each symbol. When you activate it, you need to define a global multiplier (which overrides the copier settings). After that, you can add specific symbols and configure their settings as desired

## Settings

The feature exposes the same lot-sizing knobs as the copier itself, so it can fully replace them for the affected trades:

* **Multiplier**: Global multiplier applied to the calculated slave lot size.
* **Scale by**: Scale type used for lot sizing. See [Copiers](/features/basic-features/copiers.md#scale-by) in the copier settings for a description of each option (**Balance**, **Equity**, **Fixed lot size**, **No scaling**).
* **Fixed lot size**: Lot size used when **Scale by** is set to **Fixed lot size**.
* **Fix master balance/equity**: Overrides the master account balance/equity used in the lot-size calculation. A value of 0 means deactivated (the real value is used).
* **Fix slave balance/equity**: Overrides the slave account balance/equity used in the lot-size calculation. A value of 0 means deactivated (the real value is used).
* **Symbols configuration**: Optional per-symbol overrides. For each configured symbol you can define its own **Multiplier**, **Scale by**, **Fixed lot size**, **Fix master balance/equity** and **Fix slave balance/equity**.
* **Rules**: Optional list of rules that size trades by magic number or comment. Rules can be defined globally or per symbol configuration. See [#rules](#rules "mention").

## Override behavior

When the Multiplier feature is added to a copier, its values **replace** the corresponding copier settings for lot-size calculation. The precedence is:

1. **Rules** (the first rule that matches the trade) - highest priority.
2. **Symbol-specific configuration** (if the traded symbol is listed in the feature's symbols configuration).
3. **Global values inside the feature** (used when neither a rule nor a symbol-specific entry matches).
4. **Copier settings** - used only when the feature is not attached to the copier.

Because of this, once the Multiplier feature is active, the **Multiplier**, **Scale by**, **Fixed lot size**, **Fix master balance/equity** and **Fix slave balance/equity** defined on the copier itself are effectively ignored for any trade the feature applies to.

Other copier-level options (Slippage, Max lot size, Max open positions, Copy SL/TP, Reverse, Ignore contract size, Ignore currency, etc.) are **not** touched by this feature. They always come from the copier settings.

## Rules

Rules let you size trades differently depending on which strategy opened them on the master. A typical use case is a master account that runs several expert advisors, each with its own magic number range, where every EA needs its own multiplier on the slave.

### Matching

Each rule has up to two criteria:

* **Magic number**: One or more regex patterns (case insensitive) applied to the magic number (MetaTrader) or label (cTrader).
* **Comment**: One or more regex patterns (case insensitive) applied to the position comment.

A rule matches when **all filled criteria** match. Within one criterion, a single matching entry is enough. A rule needs at least one criterion.

Rules are checked **from top to bottom and the first matching rule wins**. Use the arrows in the dialog to change the order. Regex patterns work the same way as in the [copier filter](/features/basic-features/copier-filter.md). If you are not familiar with regex, see the [regex tutorial](/tutorials/regex.md).

Examples:

| Magic number pattern | Matches                                       |
| -------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| `^7105$`             | Exactly 7105                                  |
| `^71[0-9]{2}$`       | 7100 to 7199                                  |
| `^(7105\|7209)$`     | 7105 or 7209                                  |
| `.*`                 | Every trade (useful as a catch-all last rule) |

### Settings per rule

* **Name**: Optional label, e.g. the EA name. It is shown in the copy log. Without a name the rule is shown by its position, e.g. `#2` (or `XAUUSD #2` for a rule of a symbol configuration).
* **Skip matching trades**: Trades matching the rule are not copied.
* **Multiplier**: Replaces the multiplier for matching trades (it is not combined with it).
* **Scale by**, **Fixed lot size**: Optional. Leave empty to inherit the value from the symbol configuration or the global values. The fixed master and slave balance/equity always come from the symbol configuration or the global values.
* **Max lot size**: Caps the calculated lot size for matching trades. Empty or 0 means no cap. The copier max lot size and the Max Lot Size feature still apply; the lowest limit wins.
* **Below minimum lot**: What happens when the calculated lot size is below the broker's minimum volume.
  * **Inherit from copier**: Uses the copier settings (force min trade and min volume safety).
  * **Round up to minimum**: The trade is opened with the broker's minimum volume.
  * **Skip trade**: The trade is not copied.

### Rules per symbol

Every symbol configuration can have its own rules. For a trade on that symbol, the symbol configuration **replaces** the global settings, including the global rules. Only the rules of the symbol configuration apply; if it has no rules, no rule applies to that symbol.

### Trades that match no rule

Trades that match no rule are sized with the symbol configuration and the global values of the feature, exactly as without rules. To skip them instead, add a last rule with the magic number pattern `.*` and enable **Skip matching trades**.

### Pending orders and scaling

Rules apply to market positions and pending orders alike, and they work together with every scale type, including fixed master and slave balance/equity.

### Filters, open positions and limits

* **Copier filter**: Rules only apply to trades that pass the copier filter (and the other filters of the copier). A trade excluded by a filter is not copied, whatever the rules say.
* **Open positions**: A rule is applied when the trade is opened. Closes and partial closes follow the lot size of the copied position, proportionally to the master. Editing or removing a rule only affects new trades.
* **Limits**: Up to 100 global rules, and up to 100 rules per symbol configuration.

### Copy log

Every copied trade that was sized by a rule shows the rule in the copy log, e.g. `Open: from ... (multiplier rule: Reaper)`. Skipped trades are logged as `Open skipped (multiplier rule: Rest)`.
